Aloha Friday - September 25, 2009

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

Do you know what this is?

My parents didn't plant a garden, but some stuff grew from their compost. Pumpkins, guards and squash grew, but we can't seem to identify this, it's about 12-15 inches tall. Anyone know?

Take Me Back Tuesday

This is a picture of me, at my baby shower with my first pregnancy. It wasn't a surprise, but I had a wonderful shower. To bad, my doctor told me that it looked like I was having a girl, so a lot of stuff I got was girly. Then the following Monday, I had an ultra sound, and Tristan (my baby boy) decided to reveal himself, which did surprise me!

Remembering 9/11

Can you believe it's been 8 years since the 9/11 attacks? I still remember it as if it was yesterday. I still remember what I was doing, how I felt and praying that night in hopes of finding survivors from the Twin Towers. This is the first time I just started crying for our country and for the people I never met.

It's funny, but for some reason, I remember looking at the sunrise that morning, it was a bright orange and beautiful. I was admiring it while I was driving to work at 7 o'clock in the morning. I was working at the Vermont Teddy Bear Company and the day was just another typical work day. I put on my head phones while I was getting ready to start my daily sewing, listening to Howard Stern. I remember when the first plane hit the towers that Howard had mention what had happen. It was awful, but no one seem to be to concern. I thought it was an accident. I honestly never even knew what the Twin Towers were until that morning. Everyone at work started talking about it at our stretch break. Then after the stretch break we went back to work, I put my head phones on, and shortly after, Howard announced another plane hit the towers. He said this is an attack on America. I was so scared. What was happening. New York City is not that far from Vermont. I was in a total trance and just listen to the radio and my sewing had gone on auto pilot, I was not even thinking about my sewing.

Finally, we had our first break. I went outside to talk to other co-workers, everyone was talking about what was going on. We all were in disbelief and wondering what's going to happen next. After break, I went back to sewing. I couldn't stop listening to the radio, I even remembered at times I stopped sewing for awhile just trying to comprehend what was going on. You see, in our department, we weren't allowed to "stop" working, we would get spoken too, but at this point, I don't think I even knew that I was stopping. We then heard how a plane hit the pentagon, so at this point I was terrified. I didn't want to be at work, I wanted to be with my family. No one knew what was going to happen.

Around 10:30am, we were told that there was a TV on upstairs and anyone can go up and watch if we wanted to, and of course we all did. At this point they were talking about the plane going down in Pennsylvania, and there were a lot of us quietly watching the TV in a small room. We were told, that we can leave if we wanted to but we would have to use our own vacation time. I thought, I don't care, I can't work right now anyway. Though I stayed in the small room for another 20 minutes watching TV. Then, a lady came in and said, we're closing for the day, you all can leave and will be paid for the rest of the day. After that was said, we all, got up and got our stuff and left at 10:50am. I didn't go home, I went straight to my mom's work. I remembered driving down the road and stopping at red lights, and I could here the other car passengers and drivers listening to their radio, listening to the horrific broadcast. I got to my mom's work, gave her big hug. Told her that we were dismissed from work and wanted to see how she was doing. She was just like the rest of us, disbelief, scared and sad.

I remember that night, we all went outside and looked to the sky. It was so quiet, no plane in sight. The only type of traffic we'd hear in the sky would be jets, and I can tell you, when we heard a jet go by, we surely looked to the sky. I stayed the night at my parents house that night, and prayed, and cried myself to sleep.

My question is:

Do you have an HDTV?

We just got our first HDTV, of course, we're not paying the extra $20/month for the HD channels. Guess that don't make much since huh? Though getting use to a rectangular shape television takes some time. We're still adjusting.

Thursday Thunks - September 3, 2009

1. Your thoughts on truck drivers?

I respect them. I think that have an unappreciated job.
Many people don't realize what they give up by being a truck driver.

2. Did you hear Michelle Duggar is pregnant for the 15th time?
(but that will be kid #19 if you lost count....)

I did not hear, though I think I heard somewhere that they're going for 20.

3. Have you ever done something to hurt someone intentionally... just for the sole purpose of hurting them because you thought they deserved it? Maybe a paybacks a bitch sort of thing?

I can't recall ever doing that.
I've had the thought, but to actually hurt someone
on purpose, no I haven't.

4. Is there anyone in your life that when you go to their place of residence, you just walk in without bother knocking? Does anyone just walk into your house without knocking?

I never knock when I go visit my parents house
and my parents sometimes will walk in without
knocking at my house, but not that often.

5. Whats in the trunk of your car? Do you even have a clue?

Oh, I know what's in the trunk of my car,
3 full garbage bags of baby clothes that I need to give to my cousin soon...

6. When you go to a family holiday get together
(such as Christmas or Thanksgiving), about how many people are there?

About 10-15 people

7. What is in your kitchen sink right at this very moment?

Oh boy, I'm proudly to say a spoon and 1 coffee cup!

8. You go to a store to buy an expensive item... say $150. You pick up that item and a couple other this n' thats. You get to the register and the expensive item rings up at $40. The cashier doesn't seem to notice and tells you your total. Do you go with what they say and pay it or do you question the price difference? You know you would question it if your $40 item rang up at $150....

Honestly, I would question the price, just because it's a big difference
and with my luck I'd get caught or question about it later.

9. Do you fold your underwear or do you just toss it in a drawer?

I fold them in half and that's about it.

10. There is a Harley-Davidson giveaway.
Chances are $100 and they are only selling 250 tickets.

No, I don't like motorcycles

11. Who is your favorite Disney character?

House!

13. You are at a grocery store and are on your way out to your car with your cart full of grocery bags. On your way to your car you see a black kitten in an empty cart. What do you do?

I probably wouldn't do anything. I would want to go over and hug it and then take it home and find the owner. But, most likely I won't find the owner, and I can't afford to take another cat. Plus the human society here can be a pain to deal with, so I sadly would say, my heart would break for it but won't do anything about it.

14. Is there anything that you do for a hobby that you are asked to do for friends/family that most people would hire a professional to do? (example: cake decorating, fixing cars....)

Anything that deals with computers. I'm not a computer wizard, but, I do know a lot about certain programs, and some designing. Which I love doing!

15. Are we there yet?

Not yet, but hopefully it's not much further...

Take Me Back Tuesday - September 1, 2009

This is my first Take Me Back Tuesday, after about 1/2 an hour of trying to get my scanner working I finally did it! These pictures were taken when a bunch of my family and friends (9 of us), went to the Great Escape in NY. This still is the most fun I had going there, in August 1997. I've been there a few times before and after '97 but most of the fun memories are in '97. I'm the 2nd one in the front of the Desperado Plunge, along with my 2 cousins in the back and my best friend in front of me!

My cousins and I wanted to get a picture of us in the "Big Chair".
We look like babies. I'm the first one one the left.

My cousin & best friend wanted to go on this ride, The Skylab.
They're in the front. I was to chicken to go on it.

This was just a random picture that we decided to pose for.
My cousin Jess, me and my cousin April.

Here are some of the boys going for lunch.
We all would separate the reunite then separate, then reunite..
from left to right, Eric, George & Brian.
Not sure who that other guy is walking by them, some how got a stranger in the picture...hmm

My question is:

Do you ever have a reoccurring dream?

About once a week (sometimes more) I dream about dinosaurs. Not sure why, I don't watch them on TV or read about them. But they seem to haunt me in my dreams all the time, and I hate it.
